COUNSELLING

The focus of our counselling with young people is to provide a nurturing, safe, non-judgemental relationship through active and empathic listening. Our counsellors are highly experienced and offer an integrative counselling model which combines effective, age-appropriate, creative and engaging counselling methods to enable young people achieve desired outcomes.

Our counselling approaches include creative interventions, Play therapy, Art therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. With older students (Year 11 and sixth form) we sometimes introduce Transactional Analysis as a form of psycho-education to equip students with practical knowledge and tools to help them develop deeper self-awareness and relational skills.

Our counsellors are fully qualified and registered with British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).  We adhere to BACP’s ethical framework and are subject to its complaint procedures. We strive to build a strong alliance with the schools we work with as this ensures best outcomes for the young people.  We work closely with the schools’ pastoral staff, SENCO, safeguarding and child protection officers and ensure that we are fully abreast of each school’s safeguarding policies. Where appropriate we will share knowledge and disclose necessary information whilst maintaining our commitment to client confidentiality. We undertake full assessment of every young person we work with.

We offer weekly one to one or group counselling sessions which last 50 minutes. We advise a minimum of 6 counselling sessions per young person in order to be able to build trust and rapport with the young person. In our experience, we have found longer term counselling offering 10 sessions or more to be highly effective in achieving lasting and measurable desired outcomes.

How We Operate Our Counselling Service in Your School

This could be a pastoral support manager or safeguarding officer.  Your appointed counsellor will integrate and establish themselves within your school and develop a strong working relationship with your staff.

To ensure confidentiality and safety, we require a confidential room to use regularly on site; preferably in a quiet area within the.
